Exchanges: Manchester / St Petersburg 2002/6

In the first stage of Exchanges Tea gathered images and opinions of seven old industrial buildings in Manchester which were at different stages of redevelopment. These were used during a residency at the Red Banner Knitwear Factory in St Petersburg, a striking constructivist building which was struggling to remain in production. A mixed media installation in the factory compared images and perceptions of the industrial legacy of the two cities using photography, video, sound and objects.

Back in the UK the project was presented as an installation at CUBE (Centre for the Understanding of the Built Environment) in Manchester.

Fabrika is a composite video journey through the Red Banner factory and the old industrial spaces in Manchester.

In 2003 Tea artists explored the streets of St Petersburg with two local artists. The resulting exhibition, Prospekt, was presented in St Petersburg as part of Manchester Week and at URBIS in Manchester as part of St Petersburg week.

In 2006 A new edit of Fabrika was commissioned by Cornerhouse and shown on BBC Big Screens across the UK for Architecture Week 2006
